Tales from a Small New England Town

2016
Performance

The artist together with Ao Wang, Assistant Professor of Asian Languages and Literatures at Wesleyan University, led seven students from that University’s Department of Asian Languages and Literatures to engage in the creative rewriting of seven stories from Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, a collection of supernatural tales from the eighteenth century. On February 26, 2016, these rewritten versions were publicly performed at the Olin Memorial Library at Wesleyan University. Simultaneously, the artist, conducting his own research at the Special Collections & Archives at Olin Memorial Library, discovered an extraordinary event that had occurred on the Wesleyan University campus. The Project’s brand-new narrations of eerie, uncanny, and horrifying tales are rewriting the history of this small New England town.

Performance contributed by the following Wesleyan University undergraduates: Anthony Philip Barker, Simon Chen, Kate Davis, Nadezhda Georgieva, Michael Henske, Lily Kong, Kush Sharma, Ethan Zeiger.
